Mrs Martha Jones Schimmel, 93, went home to be with her Lord on September 14, 2017. Martha was born on December 2, 1923 in Columbus Georgia to Chester Thomas Jones and Lutie Warlick Jones. In 1947 she met and married the love of her life Walter James (Bill) Schimmel Jr from Gainesville Georgia. They moved to Athens in order for Bill to attend the University of Georgia and later he was employed as general manager of Central Soya (now Seaboard Farms).

Mrs Martha Jones Schimmel, 93, went home to be with her Lord on September 14, 2017. Martha was born on December 2, 1923 in Columbus Georgia to Chester Thomas Jones and Lutie Warlick Jones. In 1947 she met and married the love of her life Walter James (Bill) Schimmel Jr from Gainesville Georgia. They moved to Athens in order for Bill to attend the University of Georgia and later he was employed as general manager of Central Soya (now Seaboard Farms).

Martha was a full-time homemaker who raised four boys. She and Bill were members of Young Harris Methodist church for over 60 years where she served in different capacities as a study leader and circle leader, president of the Methodist women and, also was a Sunday school teacher along with singing in the choir. She also volunteered for the Red Cross at Athens Regional Hospital for more than 10 years.

Martha was very active in her life as she enjoyed, playing the piano, gardening, painting, boating and skiing, hiking, and golfing. She was an adherent advocate for all those she loved; a dear soul.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and her sister and best friend Jane Jones Smith of Fernandina Beach, FL.

Martha is survived by her four boys. Walter J Schimmel Sr. (Dianne) Wesson, MS; Donald T Schimmel (Ramona) Nicholson Georgia; Edward W Schimmel (Carol) Athens Georgia; Lewis H Schimmel (Melanie); brother Colonel Chester T. Jones of Oceanside California. 12 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Thank all of the "angels from heaven" at Talmage Terrace assisted living for making Martha's last years of life comfortable and pleasant.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 3 pm at Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Stewart Simms officiating.
